Flying to Europe on $600 airfares with Scoot... What it was really like to fly a low-cost airline

Updated: Apr 6, 2023

Post Covid airfares from Scoot have been out of this world!

So, when the flight deal came up for us to get from Gold Coast to Athen's for just under $600, I jumped at the chance.

Below I will break down our full experience and share with you my thoughts on if I feel it was worth the savings (which would have been thousands of dollars) to book and fly with a low-cost airline.

Scoot Low Cost Airline Experience

Our experience flying with Scoot, and our tips:

Inflight Service

Was awesome, staff were attentive, friendly and everything was self-service, through scanning a QR code on the headrest of your seat.

Food & Beverage

There was a great selection of meals and drinks, and I thought they were very well priced for airplane food.

Seats & Comfort:

I was pleasantly surprised by how roomy and comfortable the seats were, they reclined just the right amount and there was enough leg room considering the price of the seats.

The only negative was there was no USB power, unless you paid for it. There was also no option to pay for a screen & movies like some other Low-Cost Airlines offer.

So was it worth it... YES

Would I book again?...100 % YES

Overall, the whole experience from the online booking, check-in, and the inflight service was amazing. All our flights were on-time and we felt well looked after through each leg of the trip. The planes appeared quite new, and the comfort and leg space was great.

Our TIPS:

  1. Wait for a SALE, if you are going to go low-cost you want to be saving money. By the time you add your luggage, meals, seats sometimes they don't always work out to be LOW COST so you want to make sure you scoop a bargain!

  2. If you are booking luggage or seats do this at the time of the booking, as it is always cheaper when then package it at the start.

  3. If you didn't book your luggage when you booked your tickets, but decide you need it, make sure you do it before the airport as it costs ALOT less online.

  4. Bring a portable charger as you may not have access to power and may want to re-charge your devices before you land at your destination.

  5. Charge all your devices before you board, some of the Low-cost airlines do not have personal TV / Movie devices for hire.

  6. Download your episodes from Netflix / Stan etc so that you have them offline to watch.

  7. Bring earphones, as you won't be able to have the volume up on board.

  8. Prepare your snacks for on board.

  9. If you want a hot meal, you may have to pre-purchase so that they have it available, this is not always the case but better to be safe.

  10. Bring an empty water bottle as most airports will have a water fountain after security to fill up your water before you fly.

  11. Bring warm cloths / pillow and blanket as these are not supplied. You usually can however purchase these.

  12. Enjoy the SAVINGS, appreciate that you've saved some $$ and don't have unreal expectations.

Currently Scoot fly out of the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth to Singapore and onwards to the majority of South East Asia and to selected European / Middle East destinations:
