Day 14
Today was our first full day in Sri Lanka. We were staying in Negombo, which is a beach side town close to the airport. Today's plan was to get our bearings, get a driver sorted for the morning, get money exchanged and a sim card sorted (48GB for around $25usd).
Negombo and the beach itself isnt really a holiday destination, so a night before or after your flight to get your bearings or as a layover is plenty.
It was great to jump in the fast lane and head to Colombo for the day, and have a tuk tuk tour of the crazy city!
Where we Stayed: Ayur Ayur Resort
Day 15
Today was our travel day up to Pinnawala (around 3 hours), we stayed right next to the Elephant Orphanage which overlooked the river with over 70 elephants.
What an incredible place, we quickly fell in love and if you watch below you will certainly see why!
Where we Stayed: Elephant Bay Hotel
Day 16
Christmas Day! A Christmas to remember and not like any others... What a cool place to be and experience on Christmas Day.
Day 17
Ambuluwawa Tower!
What an exhilarating experience…
I’d like to say we weren’t scared 😱 but we totally were.
Ambuluwawa is 3567 meters above sea level and the tower stands 48 metres tall. As you climb the tower the final stairs become so narrow and the rail so low it was hard not be a tad scared.
To discover more about the location, cost and experience and our tips, watch this guide below to Ambuluwawa Tower.
We travelled from Pinnawala, but it is closer to Kandy if that is where you are staying.
All up it was a really inexpensive adventure and something I would 100% recommend you add to your Sri Lankan Itinerary.
Day 18
Hikkadawa
We arrvied to Hikkadawa Beach, and wow, couldnt be happier with our resort, Avenra Beach Resort absolute beach front location, right infront of the surf, and an infinity pool to die for! We loved it so much we extended our stay to include NYE! another 2 nights :)
PLUS checkout our beachfront room! LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!
Day 19
Turtle Beach Hikkaduwa
This is an incredible place, a group of green sea turtles frequent the beach shore, to snack on seaweed from the locals and tourists! They are so friendly and BIG!.
No matter the time of day you will find turtles here, but our tip is to visit early morning to beat the crowds!
Day 20
Chill day, Boys went surfing, we shopped at little markets, hung out at the pool, and overate like every other day :)
